BroadSoft Announces XCv2 Developer Challenge

  GAITHERSBURG, MD, Apr 07 (MARKET WIRE) -- 
BroadSoft, Inc., the leading worldwide provider of VoIP applications,
today announced the XContestv2 (XCv2) developer challenge. Co-sponsored
by IBM, XCv2 is designed to empower developers to create compelling
business and consumer communications applications based on BroadSoft's
Xtended Web Services and other open application programming interfaces
(APIs).

    XCv2 is open to all application developers, software development teams and
independent software vendors (ISVs). Winners will be awarded cash prizes
totaling over $30,000 and given the opportunity to showcase their
applications to BroadSoft's global customer base of more than 450
telecommunications service providers, which includes eight of the top 10
and 14 of the top 25 largest carriers in the world. Through the Xtended
Marketplace, BroadSoft's online storefront of third-party applications,
developers have the opportunity to reach over 500 million subscribers
served by BroadSoft(R) customers.

    "Web 2.0, mobility and social networking have fundamentally changed the
world of communications. Individuals, whether in their business or
personal lives, are constantly exploring more effective ways to
communicate and be productive," said Leslie Ferry, vice president of
marketing, BroadSoft. "XCv2 goes beyond traditional mashup contests in
that it presents developers with an immediate opportunity to tap into a
lucrative market and offer their applications to hundreds of millions of
end users."

    More than $30,000 will be awarded throughout the course of the contest,
offering participants multiple opportunities to win cash prizes.
Additionally, the top two winners in each category will receive $1,000
toward a trip to Connections 2009, BroadSoft's annual user conference
(October 26-29 in Scottsdale, Arizona), where they will have the
opportunity to demonstrate their applications to an expected audience of
800 telecommunications industry executives. Developers who participated in
BroadSoft's 2008 mashup contest demonstrated extraordinary creativity and
innovation. Winning applications in disaster dispatching, accounts
receivable and Adobe Air development were showcased at Connections 2008:
Show Me the Apps!.

    Registration and Contest Details

    Registration for XCv2 opens today and continues through April 27. Idea
submissions will be accepted through May 18 and developers have until July
31 to submit their working applications and prototypes. Winners will be

    XCv2 offers a bonus for applications that leverage the IBM WebSphere
Presence Server and WebSphere XML Document Management Server (XDMS) to
further enrich features and functionality. Contestants are encouraged to
incorporate IBM Rational and IBM Mashup Center tools, which can be
downloaded for a 60-day trial at no charge.
