Administration

HOUGHTON, N.Y., April 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Efrain Rivera, a former
corporate vice president and chief financial officer for Bausch and Lomb in
Rochester, NY, has been named Vice President of Finance and Administration for
Houghton College, effective May 1, 2009.

"Efrain has distinguished himself in domestic and international business
circles as a far-sighted, strategic financial thinker and planner," said
Shirley A. Mullen, college president. "He is also a person of great wisdom
and integrity. We look forward to him joining our team and contributing to
the growth and development of his undergraduate alma mater."

Rivera, who graduated from Houghton College in 1978, will be responsible for
all aspects of Houghton's daily and long-range financial planning and
operations including its investment portfolio and endowment funds. In
addition, he will oversee the areas of human resources, facilities and
technology as well as teach in Houghton's business program.

"My experience confirms that college graduates need a solid academic
foundation to succeed, but today's developments show that they must also be
prepared to uphold the highest standards and values of our society," Rivera
said. "As a Christian institution, Houghton College specializes in both areas
-- academics and spiritual development -- which is why I am pleased to have a
part in advancing this historic institution."

Rivera was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He received a B.S. degree in
Psychology from Houghton College and went on to earn an MBA in Finance from
The William E. Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of
Rochester, and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from New York University. He also
earned an Executive Doctorate in Management from Case Western Reserve
University, Cleveland, Ohio.

In the mid-1980s, Rivera worked as a trial attorney in the Civil Division of

Lomb and held director positions in Investor Relations and Business Analysis.
In 1994, Rivera served as general manager of B&L Mexico and later in the 1990s
as vice president of its Finance and Vision Care operations in Rochester.

He continued his career as president of B&L Canada and Latin America. In 2002,
he was elected an officer of the company and shortly thereafter, took a leave
of absence to serve as Dean of the School of Professional Studies at Eastern
University, near Philadelphia, PA. In 2004, he returned to B&L and was named
corporate vice president and treasurer. He took an early retirement from the
B&L in 2009.

Rivera is a Certified Management Accountant(R) (CMA), Certified Financial
Manager(R) (CFM), a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and a
member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for business.

He and his wife Michele, a Houghton alumna who also graduated in 1978, are
parents of two teenaged children.
