CONCORD, Va., April 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Gleaning For The World [GFTW], an international humanitarian aid organization, has announced a merger with the 22,000 member Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. Rev. Ron Davidson, GFTW president and chief operating officer, was the pastor of a mega church before he founded Gleaning For The World in 1998. The non-profit organization has since distributed 1,692 truckloads of life-saving supplies, worth nearly $400-million dollars, within 57 nations. For two consecutive years Forbes.com has recognized GFTW as the nation's top charity in terms of fundraising efficiency and charitable commitment. Jonathan Falwell, the pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church, said, "I am excited about the opportunity for our church to get involved in providing assistance to many hurting people as well as having new opportunities for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them." The Thomas Road Baptist Church was founded in 1956 by the Rev. Jerry Falwell, and has a long history of providing humanitarian aid and the message of Jesus Christ throughout the world. TRBC has been named one of the fastest growing churches in America, has an extensive national and global television outreach, and has actively mobilized its thousands of members to meet the most urgent needs of the world since the church's inception. Collectively, GFTW and TRBC will be targeting the millions of people around the world who are suffering from poverty, hunger, sickness and natural disasters. Rev. Ron Davidson said he approached Jonathan Falwell in November of 2008 about the potential of joining the two globally influential organizations, "It just made sense to me that two organizations who share a common goal could be more effective in meeting the humanitarian crises, if we worked together." Davidson continued, "TRBC has the same integrity and Christian witness we have tried to build at Gleaning. They also have the desire to reach the poor and care for people who are hurting and need help just to survive. Together, we can expand our outreach and touch the lives of more people." Pastor Falwell envisions "big growth" at GFTW for years to come, and an opportunity to change the lives of millions.
