    Michael Russell MSP, Minister for Culture, External Affairs and the
Constitution, Scottish Government, spoke at The Economic Club of Canada
yesterday as part of his first Canadian speaking tour, "Tackling the
Global Economic Challenge." April 6th is Tartan Day honouring Scotland's
business and cultural ties to Canada and the United States.

    In his speech, Minister Russell discussed Scotland's dynamic response to
the challenges posed by the current economic climate and how our two
countries can learn from each other. The Minister highlighted economic
development opportunities for Canadian businesses and portrayed Scotland
as a modern, ambitious nation with an exciting future.

    The speaking tour is part of Scotland Week 2009, a series of events in
nine North American cities held to build relationships between Canada and
Scotland and raise awareness for the strong links between these two
nations that will continue to grow throughout the year.
