Early Stage Venture Roundup

SAN FRANCISCO (Private Equity Week) - A couple of San Francisco Bay Area companies are freshly flushed with cash as two startups last week reported raising early stage funding from venture capitalists, according to Thomson Reuters.
Socialcast, which provides a social networking platform for the enterprise, secured $1.4 million in a Series A round. Socialcast is one of several providers of enterprise-focused social networking tools that have raised venture funding. Others include Socialtext, which has raised $17 million since 2004; Jive Software, which raised $15 million from Sequoia Capital in 2007; and Awareness, which has raised $11.5 million to date.
Also, TubeMogul, an online video distribution and video analytics service, secured $3 million in a first round of funding last week. TubeMogul competitors include Visible Measures www.visiblemeasures.com/, Brightcove www.brightcove.com/ and Maven Networks www.maven.net/.
