Taiwan Amtran ups TV target 25 pct, cites US demand

TAIPEI, April 14 (Reuters) - Taiwan's Amtran Technology (2489.TW), maker of Vizio brand LCD TVs, said on Tuesday it has raised its 2009 shipment target 25 percent, citing good demand in the United States where many of its TVs are sold.

Amtran is now aiming to ship 5 million flat panel TVs this year, compared with a previous target of 4 million, said President Frank Wu.

"There's a flat panel shortage right now, and we should be able to ship 5 million TVs if we can get enough panels," he told Reuters on the sidelines of a media event. "Demand in the U.S. isn't doing too badly."
