LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Richard Jenkins, who received an Oscar nomination for his lead performance in "The Visitor," is joining Julia Roberts in "Eat, Pray, Love," the big-screen adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir.

The script, which was written by Ryan Murphy, centers on a woman (Roberts) who seemingly has it all but realizes she isn't fulfilled. After a painful divorce, she sets out on a journey of self-discovery that takes her around the world.

Jenkins plays a Texan with a dark past who crosses paths with Roberts' character at an Indian ashram.

Murphy is directing the Columbia Pictures project.

"Eat, Pray, Love" marks Jenkins' third project of the year. He previously signed on for Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's horror film "Cabin in the Woods" and is shooting "Rum Diary," the adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel that stars Johnny Depp.
