For every signature, Chegg.com and American Forests to plant more trees
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- In support of Earth Day and
Arbor Day this year, April 20-24, Chegg.com is inviting people to commit to
conservation by signing the Greener Earth Pact. By signing the Greener Earth
Pact and agreeing to follow through on being more environmentally conscious,
Chegg.com will plant up to 10 acres of trees. American Forests will match
those efforts, planting an additional 10 acres of new forest growth. The
trees will be planted by American Forests GlobalReleaf Program. Participants
can log onto www.chegg.com/ecofriendly to watch along with Chegg.com the
amount of trees being planted each day.
The environment has always been top of mind for Chegg.com, the number one
online textbook rental company. The company already plants one tree for every
textbook a customer rents, buys, sells or donates. The Greener Earth Pact
extends Chegg.com's commitment to the environment, allowing people beyond
Chegg.com's core customer base of college students to participate in this
valuable, continuing program.
"The foundation of our company is built on being environmentally conscious,"
said Osman Rashid, CEO of Chegg.com. "Renting books is just one way to help
extend a textbook's life. It is absolutely appropriate that on Earth Day and
Arbor Day we are able to give back to the environment through The Greener
Earth Pact initiative. We hope many will join us in signing the pact and
watch with us as we reach the goal of planting 20 acres of trees."
The Greener Earth Pact is an agreement that was created to engage awareness,
action and commitment to resolving environmental issues that negatively affect
our everyday lives. By signing the Greener Earth Pact, participants are making
a personal commitment to rent and recycle, and to refrain from environmentally
unfriendly practices and habits. This commitment can be as simple as picking
up trash on the side of a road, turning off lights when you leave a room, or
resolving to ride your bike or walk instead of drive.
"Chegg.com is a great example of a company making a difference in today's
environment," said Gregory R. Meyer, Vice President, Marketing & Development,
at American Forests. "Earth Day makes us step back to think of choices we can
make to keep our environment healthy for generations to come. We applaud
Chegg.com for committing to healthy forests."
Chegg.com has already planted over 750 acres of trees around the world to
recognize textbooks bought, rented, sold or donated on its site. In addition
to giving back to the environment, Chegg.com also saves students 65-85% on
textbooks. Participants and observers will be able to see the number of trees
committed to being planted by going to http://www.chegg.com/ecofriendly.
Participants will also be able to donate or sell textbooks that Chegg will
recycle.
