Full-Tuition Scholarships to be Offered to Qualified Applicants
CORAL GABLES, Fla. and GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico, April 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/
-- The University of Miami School of Business Administration today announced
its intent to bring its highly regarded Executive MBA (EMBA) program to Puerto
Rico. This expansion of the School's EMBA program, which is pending approval
by the Puerto Rico Council on Higher Education, will enable professionals
living and working in the region to earn the University of Miami MBA degree in
Puerto Rico without interrupting their careers. Classes will be held on
Saturdays over a two-year period in facilities located just outside San Juan
at the Guaynabo headquarters of El Nuevo Dia, Puerto Rico's leading daily
newspaper and the School's program partner.
"In order for Puerto Rico and the wider Caribbean basin to compete globally -
whether it be in manufacturing, research and development or professional
services - the region must have highly trained executives in leadership
positions," said Barbara Kahn, dean of the University of Miami School of
Business Administration. "By bringing our Executive MBA program to the region,
we will not only help professionals gain the skills and knowledge they need to
advance their careers and their organizations, we can also play a part in the
region's economic growth."
The University of Miami Executive MBA program is designed to enhance the
general business, critical thinking, decision-making and strategic skills of
business executives. Emphasis is placed on global management practices,
managing global markets, understanding information, finance, and people, and
on leadership development. Classes in the Puerto Rico EMBA program will be
taught by the same world-class faculty who teach in the School's main campus
MBA programs.
"The University of Miami's interest in Puerto Rico speaks very well about the
quality of our executive management sector," said Jose Julian
Alvarez-Maldonado, president and chairman of the Puerto Rico Chamber of
Commerce. "An executive MBA program of such stature in Puerto Rico will help
our businesses and their executives rise to a further level of excellence."
As part of its commitment to developing leaders in Puerto Rico, the School of
Business will offer one full-tuition scholarship per class. Scholarship
applicants must reside in Puerto Rico, meet all admission requirements and
complete the application process in order to qualify.
The intended launch of the Executive MBA program in Puerto Rico marks another
milestone in the history of the School's EMBA program, which is currently
ranked No. 33 among all EMBA programs in The Americas by the influential
Financial Times. The program, which started in 1974 at the School's main
campus, was expanded to include programs in the Bahamas in 1976, Palm Beach
County, Fla. in 1994 and Orlando and Tampa, Fla. in 1998. The School also
delivers an on-campus Masters of Science and Executive MBA program taught
entirely in Spanish.
