NEW YORK, NY, Apr 20 (MARKET WIRE) --
IX Energy Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB: IXEH) ("IX Energy"), CEO and founder,
Steve Hoffmann, commented today on the outlook for the federal market for
renewable energy under current and pending legislation, and IX Energy's
plan to leverage its marketing and sales teaming agreement with Federal
Prison Industries ("UNICOR") to deliver turnkey solar solutions to
federal, state and local government customers.
Hoffmann said, "Under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the federal
government has a mandate to increase its renewable energy use to 5% by
2010, and to 7.5% by 2013. And in the current administration, the
appetite for renewable energy and energy efficiency in federal government
buildings has only increased. Our agreement with UNICOR established a
beneficial relationship with a government-owned manufacturer that will
enable us to obtain solar panels assembled and produced in the U.S. for
sales to the federal government, which is the single largest user of
energy in the U.S."
UNICOR's 24MW photovoltaic production facility, which was built by Spire
Corporation, manufactures PV modules for federal, state and local
government agencies and is located at the Federal Correctional Institution
in Otisville, New York. Under UNICOR's Rehabilitation Program, technical
training and skills are developed specific to the solar industry that will
support future employment. The Solar Energy Industry Association reports
that the U.S. solar industry is expected to support more than 440,000
permanent, full-time jobs by 2016.
"We are pleased with the recent launch of UNICOR's production facility,"
added Hoffmann, "and we look forward to working with UNICOR to deliver its
solar modules into the federal market. We are seeing an acceleration of
opportunities at the federal level. In just the first week of April,
solicitations for solar projects have been announced by the Department of
Veterans Affairs, the Department of the Interior, the Department of the
Army, and the General Services Administration."
