Muscadine Grape Skin Dietary Supplement Protects against Cancer Therapy
Radiation Side Effects

LEWISVILLE, N.C., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Muscadine grape skin powder, from
Muscadine Naturals, Inc, (http://www.muscadinenaturals.com/), provided
significant protection against radiation damage in an independent study
conducted on mice. The finding was reported in April of 2009 at the 100th
Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, in Denver,
Colorado.

The results were reported by Dr. Ronald Carsten, who led the studies
investigating the preventative effects of Muscadine grape skin powder on
irradiated mice. The mice consumed the powder two days before radiation and
showed significantly improved radiation protection when compared to mice that
received no powder.

Dr. Carsten also compared the effects of the Muscadine grape skin powder to
pure resveratrol, which also showed evidence of protection. He concluded the
Muscadine grape skin powder which was more potent also contains additional
beneficial nutrients.

Some cancer patients that undergo radiation treatment unfortunately develop
leukemia. This occurs when normal stem cell found in bone marrow mutate and
grow into tumors, causing leukemia's or blood cell cancers. A safe and
natural way to protect patients is needed and this may be through the use of
dietary supplements containing Muscadine grape skin powder.

In the study reported, Dr. Carsten was able to measure early gene defects in
the stem cells in the bone marrow of irradiated mice. These cell changes
precede cancer of the blood cells seen in leukemia. Mice fed Muscadine grape
skin powder had protection against gene defects.

Dr. Carsten's findings included dose response curves in which he observed that
micrograms of resveratrol, not mega-doses as proposed by some current dietary
supplements providers, were optimum for the protective effect against gene
defects in normal cells.

Karen Wagner, a spokesperson for Muscadine Naturals, Inc., the company that
provided the grape powder for the study, said that the company did not
contract for the independently conducted research but was very excited by the
findings. Muscadine grapes contain more beneficial health nutrients than
bunch grapes and are one of the healthiest of the "super-fruits."

Muscadine Naturals, Inc. produces several products that contain Muscadine
grape skin powder. All of these products are 100% natural and comply with the
"Goodness Grows in North Carolina" Certification.
