Winstead Announces Winners of the 2009 Scholarships Targeting Diverse Candidates

DALLAS, April 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Texas law firm Winstead PC
announced Thara Mathews, Kris Teng, and Brittany Barnett as the winners of the
2009 Winstead Juris Doctor Scholarship program that targets first-year, top
minority law students. Mathews is a student at the Southern Methodist
University Dedman School of Law, Teng is a student at the University of Texas
School of Law, and Barnett is a student at the University of Houston Law
Center. 

As part of the Scholarship, $2,000 will be awarded to each Scholarship
recipient's student interest group of choice. Mathews selected the SMU Asian
American Law Students Association to share in her award. Teng's choice was the
UT Asian Law Students Association and Barnett opted for the University of
Houston Black Law Student Association.  

Mathews, a member of SMU's Asian American Law Students Association, is a
Certified Public Accountant and an SMU Dean's Scholarship recipient.  Mathews
was a Summa Cum Laude undergraduate from SMU, earning degrees in accounting
and international studies.

Teng is a member of UT's Asian Law Students Association and Intellectual
Property Journal. While an undergraduate at Cornell University, Teng earned a
Bachelor's degree in Genetics and was a starter on Cornell's National
Championship winning Men's Fencing Club.

Barnett is also a Certified Public Account, with masters and undergraduate
degrees in Accounting from UTA. Barnett is a member of UH's Black Law Students
Association and the founder of the community service group Girls Embracing
Mothers.
