IOUG president says pending acquisition will be a hot topic at world's largest Oracle user group conference in May CHICAGO--(Business Wire)-- The Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) says the pending Sun Microsystems (Sun) acquisition will be a topic of discussion at the upcoming annual Oracle users group conference, COLLABORATE 09. The increased interest in Sun comes as a result of today`s announcement that Oracle will acquire Sun common stock for $9.50 per share, valued at approximately $7.4 billion. COLLABORATE, co-hosted by Oracle Applications User Group and Quest International Users Group, will be held May 3-7, 2009, at the Orange County Convention Center West in Orlando, Fla. "The Sun acquisition is very exciting news for Oracle users," said Ian Abramson, president of IOUG. "COLLABORATE attendees will certainly be talking about recent acquisitions like Stellent and BEA, and how the Sun acquisition will impact database professionals. The fact that Oracle will soon control their entire technology stack and provide single-vendor solutions is big news for Oracle users which will surely spark lively discussion." With approximately 5,000 professionals in the greater Oracle community expected to attend, COLLABORATE 09 is recognized as one of the largest and most comprehensive Oracle-based user conferences. IOUG is presenting more than 350 educational sessions across seven tracks - Architecture and Infrastructure, Business Intelligence/Warehousing, Database, Development, Middleware, Professional Development and Governance Corporate Compliance (GCC) - which cover an array of products like Essbase, Portal, Stellent, 11g, 10g, RAC and more.
