Valuation Credential
Boston, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Ronald J. Adams, CPA, Managing Director -
Valuations Newbury Piret & Co., Inc., has recently been awarded the Accredited
in Business Valuation (ABV) credential by the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (AICPA). Established in 1996 by the AICPA, the ABV
credential recognizes CPAs who are premier business valuation service
providers. ABV credential holders differentiate themselves by going beyond the
core service of reaching a conclusion of value, by also creating value for
clients through the strategic application of this analysis.
The ABV credential is granted exclusively to CPAs who elect to demonstrate
their business expertise and experience by earning the credential. Since
inception, only 3,200 CPAs nationally have been awarded the ABV designation.
"The demand for business valuation services by CPAs and valuation specialists
has increased tremendously in recent years especially from owners and managers
of businesses who are concerned with estate and gift tax issues, succession
planning, divorce settlements, financial accounting and reporting, accounting
for and valuing intangible assets and goodwill in business combinations, and
valuing stock options for compliance with FAS 123 (R) and Internal Revenue
Code Section 409A, or from families who need guidance on selling their
business or buying a new one," says Marguerite A. Piret, President & CEO of
Newbury Piret & Co., Inc. "CPAs and valuation specialists have had a long
history of providing advice to clients on a variety of financial and business
matters. The ABV credential recognizes the growing importance of this service
and the CPA's expertise in delivering it."
During his tenure at Newbury Piret, Mr. Adams has advised numerous clients for
business enterprise and intangible asset valuations, mergers and acquisitions,
income tax planning, financial accounting and reporting, asset divestiture,
financial and operational due diligence, gift and estate tax planning
valuation, equity buy/sell valuations and negotiations, and economic and
financial feasibility studies. Mr. Adams has provided advice for numerous
fairness opinions, stock and stock option valuations, and FAS 141 & 142
valuations for financial accounting and tax reporting purposes.
The requirements for obtaining the ABV include holding a valid CPA certificate
and providing evidence of substantial experience and continuing professional
education in business valuation, as well as passing a rigorous eight (8) hour
exam. CPAs who have earned the ABV credential must recertify every three years
by demonstrating substantial involvement in business valuations and by
completing a prescribed amount of continuing professional education.
