Public invited to spring art unveiling and vote on new sculpture

CANNON BEACH, Ore., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Art fans will have more than one
reason to celebrate the coming of spring when dozens of new art pieces are
unveiled May 1-3 by members of the Gallery Group. The same weekend, the public
will be given a chance to vote on five pieces of sculpture with the winning
piece going on permanent display in a Cannon Beach public area.

The annual Spring Unveiling Weekend will spotlight sculpture, photographs,
glass, bronzes and paintings. Demonstrations and receptions are planned the
entire weekend.

Long known as an arts community, Cannon Beach began the "Sculpture Without
Walls" public art program in 2007. Artists from several western states and
British Columbia are invited each year to submit digital images of their work,
with five finalists selected by a panel of jurors. The five sculptures will
be installed in public places throughout Cannon Beach and the public may vote
on a favorite. The winner of the "People's Choice" award will be purchased
for $15,000 and become a permanent part of the city's public art collection.
Voting takes place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May
3. Those viewing the sculptures may pick up maps and ballots at various
locations around town.

Michael Tieman, of the Haystack Gallery and president of the Cannon Beach
Gallery Group, will open Spring Unveiling with the sculpture, "Courage," at
the Information Center, 4 p.m. Friday, May 1 with a reception to follow. At 6
p.m., George Vetter, proprietor of George Vetter Foto/Art will unveil a
selection of new photographs.

new works: White Bird Gallery, Northwest by Northwest Gallery, George Vetter
Foto/Art, Modern Villa Gallery, Ernst & Ernst Collectors Gallery, Haystack
Gallery, Jeffrey Hull Gallery, Primary Elements Gallery, Dragonfire Gallery,

additional browsing. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., George Vetter Foto/Art will host
a "Sunday Morning Send-off" with orange juice and croissants, plus a noon
