Maryland Mystery Author Organizes Fundraising Ride for Rare Neurological Disorder LAUREL, Md., April 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by Dystonia Medical Research Foundation: WHAT: Freedom Ride for Dystonia - Debbi Mack and the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) -- www.dystonia-foundation.org -- host the first Freedom Ride for Dystonia (a "poker run" primarily for motorcyclists), a fundraiser to help raise dystonia awareness and find a cure for this rare, but disabling, neurological disorder. In 2005, Debbi Mack published her first mystery--Identity Crisis--about a crime-solving, Laurel, Maryland attorney. That year, she also developed dystonia, a movement disorder that causes involuntary clenching and spasms in her left hand and foot. Motivated by the desire to spread the word and raise money to find a cure, Mack teamed with DMRF to organize this ride--a poker run about 67 miles long that ends with an event, featuring food donated by local restaurants, music, vendors, door prizes and raffles. The first 100 ride registrants get a free T-shirt. Ride registration costs $30, and event admission without the ride costs $20.
