Nikkei drops 1.4 pct amid renewed bank sector fear

TOKYO, April 21 | Mon Apr 20, 2009 8:08pm EDT

TOKYO, April 21 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei stock average lost 1.4 percent on Tuesday after Bank of America's (BAC.N) earnings revived fear about the health of the U.S. financial system and economy, and a stronger yen looked set to weigh on exporters.

Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) was untraded with a glut of sell orders after the Yomiuri newspaper said it will likely produce about 6.2 million vehicles globally in the year to March 2010, down more than 12 percent amid a worldwide sales slump.

The benchmark Nikkei .N225 shed 127.36 points to 8,797.39, while the broader Topix .TOPX lost 1.3 percent to 837.35. (Reporting by Elaine Lies)
