Mexico's Carstens watching markets after flu outbreak
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Mexican banks are well prepared to deal with any pressures from the swine flu outbreak in the country, Finance Minister Agustin Carstens said on Sunday, adding that the government will be watching markets "closely".
"We will be on top of situation," Carstens told a news conference in Washington, after attending the International Monetary Fund/World Bank spring meetings.
According to the minister, there will be no "structural" but only "transitory" damages to the economy.
He also said the government has held meetings with the association of Mexican banks, and the country's payment system "will be working well."
