MILAN, April 29 (Reuters) - Cycling road race silver medallist Davide Rebellin has failed a drugs test from the Beijing Games, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) said on Wednesday.
The International Olympic Committee said on Tuesday it had discovered seven more positive drugs results from re-testing samples taken at last August's Games, stemming from six athletes.
All of them tested positive for CERA (Continuous Erythropoiesis Receptor Activator), the new generation of banned blood-booster erythropoietin (EPO).
CONI said late on Tuesday that an Italian athlete was involved and a spokesman confirmed the name on Wednesday. The identities and sports of the five other athletes have not been released.
"Davide has not done anything. Now we must stay calm in the light of this incredible development," Rebellin's wife and agent Selina Martinello told Gazzetta dello Sport's website (www.gazzetta.it).
"We have sent off the request for the analysis of a B sample. We will go on until the end." (Editing by John O'Brien; To query or comment on this story email firstname.lastname@example.org)
