An Estimated 10,000 to Participate in the Region's Second Annual National Walk
@ Lunch Day April 29, 2009

 

5,000 Independence Blue Cross associates and other Philadelphia employees walk
at City Hall, joining thousands more across the region and the country
    WHO:    Mayor Michael A. Nutter;
            Joseph A. Frick, President & CEO, Independence Blue Cross;
            Kimberly Garrison, fitness expert, columnist for the
            Philadelphia Daily News;
            Dick Vermeil, former coach for the Philadelphia Eagles;
            Ben Franklin, actor-historian;
            Phillie Phanatic;
            An estimated 10,000 employees from Center City and suburban
            employers.

            Dr. Rich Snyder, Independence Blue Cross senior medical
            director, available for interviews.

    WHAT:   Independence Blue Cross will host Philadelphia's second annual
            National Walk @ Lunch Day, encouraging Philadelphians to take a
            brisk walk during lunch and demonstrating how easy it is to fit
            regular exercise into a normal work day and busy lifestyle.
            Similar walks will take place at more than 60 companies and
            school districts throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, and across
            the country in a national program sponsored by the Blue Cross
            Blue Shield Association.

    WHEN:   TODAY - Wed., April 29, 10:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Podium remarks
            at noon)

    WHERE:  Philadelphia's City Hall - Dilworth Plaza, and 60 suburban
            locations

    WHY:    IBC is committed to promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles,
            and is sponsoring the event to help members stay well and to show
            that walking during lunchtime is a great way to fit exercise into
            a busy day, with many health benefits.


Members of the media are invited to participate in this fun, health-oriented
event at City Hall.
