ITI Urges Continued Focus on Jobs and Global Competitiveness
WASHINGTON, April 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today Information Technology
Industry Council (ITI) President and CEO Dean Garfield issued a progress
report on the Obama Administration's first 100 days.
"We applaud President Obama's stimulus efforts to jumpstart the economy by
investing in digital infrastructure, in the areas of health IT, education,
energy efficiency and high speed broadband," said Garfield. "These are vital
first steps for improving the quality of life for all Americans, spurring job
creation and economic growth, and enabling the global competitiveness of U.S.
companies."
The IT industry also urges the Administration to continue to find workable
solutions that will:
-- Offer the next generation of Americans safety from the new national
security threats by partnering with America's leading companies in
cyber-security.
-- Preserve current corporate tax deferral rules on U.S.-owned
multinational companies; that create significant U.S. domestic jobs.
-- Drive broader adoption of advanced innovative energy solutions; and
promote the adoption of standards and policies that help achieve
greater
energy independence through industry-led innovation and more effective
management of our energy investments.
-- Expand international trade as a vehicle for creating U.S. domestic
jobs.
-- Create new job opportunities by investing in STEM education and by
keeping America's doors open to the world's "best and the
brightest" through immigration reform.
"President Obama has shown an early commitment to using IT to propel America
forward," said Garfield. "We look forward to continuing to forge a strong
partnership with the President and Congress that will bolster the economy
while improving the lives of everyday Americans."
