Dr. Abbott J. Krieger Joins Avery Biomedical Devices, Inc. as Chief Clinical
Liaison

COMMACK, N.Y., April 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- It is with great privilege
that Avery Biomedical Devices, Inc. (ABD) announces the appointment of Abbott
Krieger, M.D., F.A.C.S. as Chief Clinical Liaison.

Dr. Krieger's expertise with Avery breathing pacemakers began in 1981 while he
was Chief of Neurological Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey.  Based on that initial experience, Dr. Krieger went on to
pioneer the reinnervation of the diaphragm through the use of intercostal to
phrenic nerve grafts.  He reported the first successful use of the technique
in Neurosurgery in October, 1994.  As a visiting professor, Dr. Krieger has
traveled extensively around the world attending grand rounds and assisting
other physicians in the development of their local diaphragm pacing programs. 

Dr. Krieger most recently served as Clinical Professor in the Department of
Neurological Surgery at the USC Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles.  He is
currently in private practice in Beverly Hills, CA.  As Chief Clinical
Liaison, Dr. Krieger will lecture about the indications and latest advances in
diaphragm pacing, and be available for clinical discussions regarding
potential candidates for the breathing pacemaker.
