 WHAT: The acting director
            of the CDC stated
            that the
            organization
            believes none of the
            existing
            vaccinations are
            effective for the
            current strain of
            swine flu and the
            possibility of a
            pandemic. In a
            public statement,
            President Obama
            reiterated the
            importance of the
            scientific and
            medical community in
            addressing this type
            of public health
            challenge.

            Responding quickly
            to a pandemic
            situation is a
            challenge for most
            vaccine
            manufacturers whose
            treatments rely on
            identifying and
            replicating a strain
            of the virus for
            vaccine creation;
            antigen creation is
            required and
            frequently takes six
            months. This time
            -intensive
            development and
            manufacturing
            process is extremely
            limiting. If a
            pandemic occurs in
            the United States,
            it is highly
            unlikely that a
            traditional vaccine
            manufacturer will be
            able to produce an
            effective vaccine in
            sufficient mass
            volume rapidly
            enough to prevent
            catastrophe.

            An antigen-free
            pandemic flu
            prophylaxis would
            bypass major
            drawbacks that would
            severely limit the
            usefulness of
            conventional
            vaccines in the
            event of a pandemic.
            According to
            NanoBio, a
            biopharmaceutical
            company focused on
            developing and
            commercializing
            intranasal vaccines,
            up to 100 million
            doses of an antigen
            -free pandemic flu
            prophylaxis could be
            produced in one week
            as an emergency
            response.

 WHO: Dr. James Baker,
            Chief of Allergy and
            Immunology at the
            University of
            Michigan, and
            founder & CEO of
            NanoBio Corp., a
            biopharmaceutical
            company developing
            an antigen-sparing
            influenza vaccine
            and antigen-free
            pandemic flu
            prophylaxis based on
            its nanoemulsion
            technology platform,
            is available for
