CDC official confirms first death 23-month-old Texan

WASHINGTON, April 29 (Reuters) - A 23-month-old Texas child was the first U.S. death from the new swine flu virus, a top U.S. health official confirmed to CBS on Wednesday.

"Unfortunately this morning I do have to confirm that we have the first death of a child from H1N1 flu virus. And this is in Texas, a 23-month-old child," Dr. Richard Besser, acting head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told the CBS "Early Show."
