BEIJING, April 29 (Reuters) - A Japanese government official said on Wednesday that other countries should respond calmly to North Korea's threat to stage more nuclear and missile tests.

"It is important to have close cooperation between Japan, the United States, and South Korea, as well as China and (members of the) six-party talks to persuade North Korea to return to the talks," said the spokesman, in Beijing with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso for a two-day visit starting Wednesday.

He spoke on condition of anonymity. The six-party talks seek to end North Korea's nuclear weapons ambitions. (Reporting by Yoko Kubota, Editing by Dean Yates)
