TABLE-Chicago PMI index 40.1 in April vs 31.4 in March

April 30 (Reuters) - The Institute for Supply
Management-Chicago said on Thursday its index of Midwest
business activity rose in April to 40.1 from 31.4 in March.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a April figure of
35.0.
