NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after straining his hamstring against the Boston Red Sox.

Manager Joe Girardi told reporters Tuesday he expected Posada to be sidelined for up to three weeks.

The player injured his right hamstring when he slid into second base in the sixth inning of Monday's 6-4 defeat.

The Yankees have recalled catcher Francisco Cervelli from Double-A Trenton to replace Posada on the 25-man roster.

Cervelli was hitting .190 with two home runs and seven RBI in 16 games with the Thunder.

Jose Molina, who is batting .257 with one home run and five RBI in 13 games this season, is expected to stand in for Posada as the club's full-time catcher.

Posada was hitting .312 with five homers and 20 RBI.
