FACTBOX - Security developments in Afghanistan, May 9
(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan reported by 8:00 a.m. EDT (1200 GMT) on Saturday.
HELMAND - Afghan and U.S. forces killed seven militants and seized 600 pounds (270 kg) of opium during a search of a Taliban camp in southern Helmand province, 590 km (365 miles) southwest of Kabul, on Thursday, U.S. forces said.
A room stocked with medical supplies to treat wounded Taliban was also discovered in the compound and three suspected militants were captured.
PAKTIA - Afghan policemen killed seven Taliban militants and wounded one during a Friday night counter-attack in the Ahmad Khil district of Paktia province, around 100 km southeast of Kabul, the Interior Ministry said.
ZABUL - A roadside bomb killed two Afghan policemen and wounded two more in a vehicle in the Arghandab district of Zabul province around 325 km (200 miles) southwest of Kabul, said Jailani Khan, a police detective.
A second roadside bomb in Qalat district killed two Afghan army soldiers and wounded three more, Khan said.
HELMAND - Afghan army soldiers on Thursday killed two insurgents during a patrol in the Musa Qala district of Helmand province, the Ministry of Defense said. Two Afghan soldiers were slightly wounded.
KANDAHAR - During an operation in southern Kandahar province, 450 km (280 miles) southwest of Kabul, 25 armed Taliban were captured, an Afghan army official said.
