Medtronic Highlights Studies to Be Presented at Heart Rhythm Society 2009 Annual Scientific Sessions

New Data and Clinical Trial Launches Demonstrate Continued Leadership and
Innovation in Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management
MINNEAPOLIS--(Business Wire)--
Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) announced today it will present important data on
cardiac care device therapies and report progress across its cardiac rhythm
disease management pipeline at Heart Rhythm 2009, the annual congress of the
Heart Rhythm Society, taking place in Boston, May 13-16, 2009.

More than 50 sessions on Medtronic cardiac device studies and therapies will be
presented at Heart Rhythm 2009, including new findings on the safety of
pacemakers designed for use with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and advances
in the intervention and management of life-threatening heart rhythm disorders.

Pat Mackin also will participate in a panel discussion with industry leadership
on "The Future of Device-Based Therapy," to be held from 12:15-1:15 p.m.
Thursday, May 14. 

In addition to the various sessions and study data to be presented at Heart
Rhythm 2009, Medtronic will also announce the initiation of two major clinical
trials that will seek to improve patient outcomes in the areas of heart failure
management and reduction of unnecessary shocks from implantable
cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). 

Marshall S. Stanton, M.D., vice president of clinical research for the Cardiac
Rhythm Disease Management business at Medtronic, will present "How Cardiac
Rhythm Management (CRM) Networked Databases Assist Safety Surveillance" at a
special session from 8-9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14. This complements four
separate abstracts that will be presented on aggregated, de-identified data from
the Medtronic Discovery Hub, the world`s largest source of implantable cardiac
device information collected via the Medtronic CareLink Network. The Medtronic
Discovery Hub, which acquires and distributes data from more than 1.5 million
CareLink transmissions in the United States, will make its debut at the
Medtronic booth (no. 1129).
