NEW YORK, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Debevoise & Plimpton LLP is pleased to announce that Alyona N. Kucher and Jasmine Powers will become partners of the firm, effective July 1, 2009. Ms. Kucher is resident in the Moscow office and Ms. Powers is resident in the New York office. Alyona N. Kucher, based in the firm's Moscow office, is a member of the firm's Corporate Department. Her practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate and securities law, infrastructure projects and project financing with an emphasis on transactions in the oil and gas sectors and construction. Ms. Kucher received a degree in legal translation from the Moscow State University (1999). She graduated with honors from the Moscow State University, Faculty of Law (2000) and was awarded a Candidate of Sciences degree (Ph.D.) in law (2002). Ms. Kucher has authored several articles on foreign investments in Russia, as well as a book on contract negotiation and pre-contractual liability, and currently teaches a Civil Law course at Moscow State University. Ms. Kucher joined the firm in 1998. Jasmine Powers, based in the firm's New York office, is a member of the firm's Corporate Department. Her practice focuses on bankruptcy and restructuring, including the representation of debtors, investors, creditors and other parties in distressed mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings and refinancings, complex restructurings and Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. She received her B.S. from Princeton University in Civil Engineering and Operations Research, with a Certificate in Engineering and Management Systems (1996), and her J.D. from the University of Michigan (1999). Ms. Powers has authored numerous articles on bankruptcy and restructuring and is a contributing author to the Collier Business Workout Guide (Matthew Bender, 2008).
