Statement by Blue Shield of California CEO Bruce Bodaken Regarding White House
Health Reform Announcement

SAN FRANCISCO, May 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today's announcement takes
shared responsibility to a whole new level. Six major organizations are
committing to share responsibility for saving $2 trillion in healthcare costs
over the next decade. If they succeed, affordable coverage for all is within
our grasp.

Blue Shield of California has long advocated for universal coverage based on
universal responsibility. We are pleased that these groups are embracing the
challenge of making the changes that are necessary for health reform to
succeed.

We applaud the leadership of President Obama and these trade association
executives in making this game-changing commitment to transform the healthcare
system.
