Climbing roses on pillars and soaring redwoods provide a handsome backdrop for
Korbel garden's remarkable collection of more than 250 rose varieties -
elegant hybrid teas, aromatic damasks and delicate Old World varieties -
planted along the winding footpaths that surround the circa 1882 Korbel Family
House. Scarlet pincushion flowers join a range of multi-hued annuals and
perennials on hillside beds enriched with mulch derived from grapes crushed
for Korbel California champagne. While the roses will bloom for several
months, the garden's collection of dahlias is now emerging and will add a new
burst of color by the middle of summer.

In addition to preparing for visitors, the garden staff has been hard at work
upgrading the irrigation system with new equipment to conserve water. The
Korbel garden was recently honored with a Landscape Design Certificate of
Appreciation by the Landscape Design Council of California Garden Clubs, which
recognized it as an example of good land use.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the garden's restoration and visitors
can discover its remarkable history by taking a tour. Free guided tours of the
garden are offered Tuesday through Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. through
mid-October.

Established in 1882, Korbel Champagne Cellars produces America's most popular
methode champenoise champagne. One of Sonoma County's favorite destinations,
Korbel is located on River Road near Guerneville, California, 14 miles west of
Highway 101. Additional information regarding Korbel Champagne Cellars and the
garden can be obtained by telephone at 707/824-7000 and on the internet at
