TEWKSBURY, Mass.--(Business Wire)-- Starent Networks, Corp. (Nasdaq:STAR), a leading provider of multimedia core solutions for mobile broadband, today announced enhancements that supercharge performance of its ST40 platform. These enhancements give operators additional flexibility in architecting their packet core and multimedia core networks and further extend Starent`s industry-leading capabilities by increasing performance up to 4X. The performance of mobile broadband 3G and 4G networks requires increased capacity, significant throughput and high transaction rates to manage a growing data subscriber base, ultra high speed traffic, high demand smart phones and new data services. Mobile operators will be able to deploy Starent`s newest processing card, the Packet Services Card 2 (PSC2) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) card to increase capacity, throughput and transaction rates in higher traffic areas, while continuing to use Starent`s existing cards for other network areas. This combination provides operators with flexibility by offering multiple performance options based on their specific needs. In addition, the new cards increase performance of Starent`s deep packet inspection and intelligent In-line Services. "Mobile data usage continues to increase, and as subscribers reach for their smartphones, operators are preparing their networks to accommodate further growth," said Peter Jarich, research director with Current Analysis. "Added session, throughput and service scalability helps put Starent ahead of this curve while giving operators the flexibility required to address low-capacity through high-capacity traffic points." "Starent strives to provide industry-leading performance for our mobile operator customers. With the newest additions to our offering, we further enhance the capabilities of mobile broadband core networks and ultimately the subscriber experience," said Ashraf Dahod, president and CEO of Starent Networks. Dahod added, "We are consistently challenging ourselves to increase performance and innovation to stay ahead of market demand. As a result, we will continue to add to our portfolio of platforms to increase performance and provide mobile operators further flexibility in how they architect their network." The new PSC2 and 10GE cards can also be used in existing ST40 deployments, to increase performance without a forklift upgrade. Starent`s PSC2 and 10GE cards are expected to be commercially available in July 2009.
