(Nasdaq:FIRE), a leader in Cyber Security, today announced the winners of its fifth annual Snort Scholarship Program. Sourcefire® awarded two $5,000 Cyber Security scholarships to deserving university students using Snort to provide real-world experience in network security. "Ten years after its initial release, Snort has become the leading training tool for providing practical intrusion prevention experience to professionals and students worldwide," said Martin Roesch, Sourcefire CTO and the creator of Snort. "Our goal with this scholarship program is to reward this next generation of Snort users, while ensuring that the open source community is continuing to be infused with new ideas and innovations." To qualify for this award, participants needed to be enrolled in a Snort-certified university that uses Snort or Sourcefire products to protect its network or uses Snort as part of the curriculum in a security class. After receiving hundreds of applications, Sourcefire selected the two winners: * John Jasen, a Bachelor of Science candidate in Information Systems Management at The University of Maryland University College. Jasen has been using Snort for nearly ten years to both further his education and as an information security professional. * Ashley Chonka, a PhD degree candidate in Computer Science at Deakin University in Australia.
