ADT-Installed System Goes beyond Security by Helping Home Builder with Safety,
Management and Operations
BOCA RATON, Fla.--(Business Wire)--
Blue Ridge Log Cabins, a custom manufactured log home builder, has installed an
ADT Security Services video surveillance system to monitor safety and security
at its sales center and two manufacturing facilities. The system was originally
installed to help protect expensive building materials and quickly became a
management tool to improve efficiency, safety and customer service.

The digital video surveillance system was installed at the company`s sales
center and manufacturing facilities in Campobello, S.C., outside of
Greenville/Spartanburg. The installation included cameras at a new
110,000-square-foot production facility where craftsmen construct and assemble
sections of each log home.

Ninety to 100 percent of every home is completed at the factory, which allows
Blue Ridge Log Cabins to ensure a uniform product with a guaranteed price.
According to the company, all homes are equal to and often better in quality and
value than site-built homes. Models range from 900 to 5,000 square feet.

Chip Smith, president, Blue Ridge Log Cabins, said his plant managers are able
to remotely monitor equipment, materials and high quality appliances stored
on-site via the Internet. The ADT system also lets Blue Ridge Cabins do more
than monitor for security purposes.

"We were looking primarily for a security camera system; the ADT system provides
that security surveillance and also helps us monitor traffic in our sales
facility, in addition to alerting us to customers arriving on site," Smith said.
"It has made our overall operation much more efficient."

Smith also said that the camera system helped him improve the Blue Ridge Log
Cabins safety program by recording and replaying video of incidents that
occurred on company property. Video from the system has also given management a
valuable tool for helping train employees.

"Many companies find that once you have the security infrastructure in place,
the system can be used not only for security purposes, but for everyday
operations as well," said Jeffrey Bean, vice president, ADT Retail Sales and
Operations. "The system installed at Blue Ridge Log Cabins allows the company to
get added value from its security investment."

"The system has become a very useful tool for us," said Smith. "We rely on it to
help ensure a safe environment for our employees and customers and to help us
produce a quality product more efficiently."
