MEMPHIS, TN, May 18 (MARKET WIRE) --
Mirimichi, the Mid-South's newest public golf course, is scheduled to
open mid-summer in Memphis, Tennessee.
The par-72 golf course will stretch over 7,400 yards from the tips, but
will offer five different tee boxes to appeal to golfers of all abilities.
Golfers will be treated to lush fairways, scenic vistas, four waterfalls,
six lakes, and two creeks that meander through the holes. Water comes into
play on 15 of the fairways. The area's natural landscape is enhanced by
returning native plant species to the course and working with the natural
elevations.
Formerly known as Big Creek Golf Course, every aspect of the golf course
has been renovated. No hole is the same as it was before the renovations
-- even the majority of the greens have been enlarged, moved, or
re-contoured. The renovations were carried out by the Talent Golf team of
Mike MacElhose and Randy Wilson. Talent Golf used the careful placement
of tees, natural topography, length, width, wind direction, hazard
placement, and contouring to create a unique course design that provides
golfers with a true test of their golfing abilities, while enhancing the
beauty of their surroundings. More than 80 bunkers were added to the
course.
"We wanted to create an exceptional golf course that proves stimulating to
golfers both through the difficulty of the course and visually through the
landscape, while being good stewards of the environment," says Greg King,
Director of Golf at Mirimichi.
Mirimichi provides the opportunity for golf, nature, and people to exist
in harmony. Creating an eco-friendly course was a priority throughout the
renovations. Mirimichi has a state-of-the-art drainage system that
recirculates water from irrigation throughout the course. The course also
features native grass areas which frame the holes and reduce the mowable
acreage of the course. A Callaway Performance Center offering customized
club fitting using the Callaway Performance Analysis System will open at
the Course in 2010. The Center will be one of only nine in the country.
The facility features an expansive practice area including a driving
range, an 18-hole putting course, a short-game area including practice
bunkers, and a practice putting green. An additional nine-hole, par-35
course called Little Mirimichi, provides a faster, easier and shorter
golfing experience that allows both the inexperienced and advanced golfer
to hone their skills.
The course is owned by entertainer Justin Timberlake and his family who
bought the property in 2007 to save the land from residential development.
The Mirimichi brand, which pays homage to Timberlake's Native American
ancestry and love of the land, was created by Memphis marketing firm
Thompson & Company.
