Selective Insurance Group Announces Officer Appointments

BRANCHVILLE, N.J., May 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Selective Insurance Group,
Inc. (Nasdaq: SIGI) announced the following appointments by its subsidiary,
Selective Insurance Company of America ("Selective"):

Thomas M. Clark (Sparta, NJ) to senior vice president, claims general counsel.
Mr. Clark joined Selective in March 2009. Prior to joining Selective, he was
vice president of regional counsel operations at USAA.

Mr. Clark holds a B.A. in political science from Lynchburg College in
Lynchburg, VA and received his juris doctor degree from the College of William
and Mary.

Stephen D. Coward(Matthews, NC) to assistant vice president, regional claims
manager for Selective's Southern region office. Previously, he served as
manager of the southern region's workers compensation and litigation
operations. Mr. Coward joined Selective in August 1996. Prior to joining
Selective, he was the liability manager for Aetna Life and Casualty Company's
Charlotte, NC service center.

Mr. Coward earned his B.S. in electrical engineering from North Carolina State
University in Raleigh, NC and received his juris doctor degree from the
University Of North Carolina School Of Law in Chapel Hill, NC. In addition,
he holds the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation.

Darryl Holmes(Bridgewater, NJ) to assistant vice president, commercial lines
underwriting. Mr. Holmes joined Selective in February 2009. Prior to that,
he was a branch manager at Zurich North America.

Mr. Holmes holds a B.A. in English from Queens College in Flushing, New York.
