Shepherd, Smith, Edwards & Kantas Files Lawsuit Against Lawson Financial
Corporation and its Owners
TUSCON, Ariz., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Shepherd, Smith, Edwards & Kantas LLP
(www.sseklaw.com), a firm specializing in litigation and arbitration of
securities fraud and brokerage firm misconduct has filed an arbitration claim
on behalf of clients of Lawson Financial Corporation ("Lawson") and its
owners. The claim (Case # 09-02780) was filed last week through the
Arbitration Division of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority
(www.FINRA.org), formerly the National Association of Securities Dealers
("NASD"), on behalf of a retired Arizona couple. The claim involves
unsuitable recommendations, misrepresentations and omissions in the sale of
investments in several "private placements." As alleged in the claim, though
the elderly couple requested investments that were safe, the sales agent
nonetheless recommended they place the majority of their life savings into
these illiquid investments.
The investments in question include offerings in Arizona Village Communities
Operating Company ("AVC") as well as another AVC project and Inland America.
According to both AVC's website, Lawson Financial was the sole "promoter" or
marketer of AVC which was represented as an upscale residential development in
the Phoenix area. However, in order to invest in such "private placements,"
investors must be accredited, which the claim alleges some investors were not.
In addition, the claim alleges that certain material information was
misstated or omitted in the sale of these investments, in violation of
securities laws meant to protect investors. Ultimately, the AVC investments
have largely gone into bankruptcy and may become worthless or at least have
diminished greatly in value.
