Boosts productivity of IT staff, improves ability to rapidly search e-mail
BOSTON--(Business Wire)--
Nucleus Research analysts have independently examined the deployment of Google
Message Discovery for a leading medical products provider to find a return on
investment (ROI) of 806% with payback in four months.

A publicly held provider of a broad variety of medical devices, the company is
subject to Sarbanes-Oxley and sells products to highly regulated customers. As a
result, it is frequently subject to litigation and regulatory oversight, which
often requires the IT department to locate e-mails to sufficiently respond to
discovery requests. In early 2008, the IT department determined that it needed
to improve its practices for fulfilling these requests.

After reviewing multiple options, Google Message Discovery (formerly Postini)
was chosen because it is delivered as a service over the Web and its deployment
requires no hardware, fewer personnel and takes less time. Further, its
journaling functionality sends a copy of all e-mails to a dedicated e-mail box,
enabling faster, more comprehensive searches while limiting employees` ability
to obscure activity by deleting or moving e-mails. Google Message Discovery is
used by IT and legal personnel to search the e-mails of 5,300 employees who are
distributed across four legal entities. The vast majority of e-mails are stored
on Google servers. This solution has improved administrator productivity and
reduced costs by eliminating most magnetic storage tapes, while avoiding both
server and consultant costs.

"We`re seeing growing adoption of cloud computing and on-demand applications as
a way to reduce capital costs, accelerate time to value, and manage limited
resources," said Rebecca Wettemann, VP of Research for Nucleus Research.
"Companies considering cloud strategies today can likely identify both
opportunities to reduce ongoing costs and opportunities to deliver greater value
with limited investment."
