Arizona State Credit Union Associate Helps Save Member's Life After Pharmacy
Error

Associate Rushes to a Member's Home Preventing Her from Taking Potentially
Life Threatening Dose of Medication

PHOENIX, May 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An Arizona State Credit Union
associate was able to prevent a member from taking a potentially fatal level
of insulin mistakenly given to her by a pharmacy. While not part of any of its
services or employee training, Arizona State Credit Union associate Christina
Maulfair received a call from the member's pharmacy when it realized it had
wrongfully given the member too heavy a dose of medication. The pharmacy had
no contact information for the woman except the credit union debit card she
used to pay for the medicine.

"I never expected to receive a call like this, but luckily this scary
situation has a very happy ending," said Arizona State Credit Union associate
Christina Maulfair. "Everyone here would have done exactly the same thing, and
I'm just so glad I was able to reach her in time."

Denise Dewyer routinely purchased an over-the-counter version of insulin from
the pharmacy, but was mistakenly given the prescription-strength version
instead, which is concentrated and five times as potent. The pharmacy,
realizing its error, had no way of contacting her so they looked up her debit
card records and called Arizona State Credit Union, reaching employee
Christina Maulfair.

To protect her member's privacy, Maulfair would not release the contact
information to the pharmacy and instead tried contacting Dewyer herself. When
the phone call went unanswered, Maulfair rushed to Dewyer's home. Repeated
knocking on the door went unanswered, so Maulfair, not giving up, wrote
multiple urgent notes and posted them at every doorway. Dewyer found the notes
a short time later and was able to contact her pharmacy before taking what
could have been a fatal dose of the medicine.

"I want to express my deepest gratitude to Christina for going above and
beyond and preventing me from using medication that could have killed me,"
said Dewyer. "It's not often that you get to thank someone for saving your
life. I have had an account with the credit union for over 15 years, and won't
be going anywhere else."

By acting quickly and refusing to give up, Arizona State Credit Union
reinforces its unwavering commitment to its members, providing unparalleled
service, and never hesitating to go above and beyond the call of duty.
