Parents are Increasingly Concerned for Their Children's Safety, yet More Than
30 Percent do not Have a Safety Plan

LIVONIA, Mich., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- RedPlum, a leading provider of deals
and savings on brands consumers want most, announced today the results of its
2009 Child Safety Survey. As the consumer-facing brand of Valassis
(www.valassis.com), the survey was conducted on www.redplum.com, where the
faces of missing children can be found. Valassis is entering its 25th year of
support for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children(R) (NCMEC,
www.missingkids.com) and the company's national "Have You Seen Me?(R)"
program. The online survey aimed to provide insight into parents' preparedness
in case of an attempted abduction or exploitation of their child/children, and
provide actionable information for families in tandem with National Missing
Children's Day on May 25.

Nearly 500 participants responded to the online survey. The most notable
results included:
    -- 46% of respondents feel their concern for their child/children's
        safety has increased in the past year;
    -- 30.5% have not worked with their children to develop an action plan to
        deal with an attempted abduction (i.e. shouting loudly, running to a
        sales assistant in a store, running to a uniformed security guard,
        etc.);
    -- 37% of respondents do not speak with their children about abductors or
        exploiters being people they know;
    -- 84% look at photos of missing children by themselves and do not share
        them with their spouse or children; and
    -- 39% have not spoken to their child/children about Internet safety.

A key component in the longstanding partnership is the inclusion of NCMEC
photos of missing children in RedPlum products - in the mail, the newspaper
and online - which reach over 100 million people each week. To date, the
RedPlum distribution has aided in the recovery of nearly 150 missing children
across the country.

While it may not seem surprising that 84 percent of parents do not share
photos of missing children with their families, RedPlum has found through its
relationship with NCMEC that a significant number of recoveries have come from
other children recognizing the photographs. Often times, it is the children
who make the connection while interacting with other children at school, at
the park, or at after-school activities.

On a positive note, there was an increase in awareness with parents on social
networking sites, with 81 percent responding that they are aware of the social
networking sites their children are involved in. Furthermore, of that 81
percent, 93 percent believe they should monitor their child's activity on
these sites.

"As we are about to commemorate National Missing Children Day, we thought it
was important to shed light on the seriousness of child safety in order to
raise awareness among families and to stress the need for parents to talk to
their children about personal safety," said Vince Giuliano, Valassis Senior
Vice President, Government Relations, and NCMEC Board member. "We remain
committed to this cause and will continue to leverage our core competencies
and our extensive distribution channels to help raise awareness for this
national issue."
