** Canada's top grain handler Viterra Inc (VT.TO) has agreed to buy Australia's ABB Grain Ltd ABB.AX in a $1.2 billion share and cash deal, giving Viterra access to growth markets in Asia.

** If General Motors Corp (GM.N) files for bankruptcy, as widely expected, plans include a quick sale of the automaker's healthy assets to a new company owned by the U.S. government, a source familiar with the situation said. [ID:nN19441558]
** China's Guangzhou Automobile has reached an initial agreement with Hunan Changfeng Motor Co 600991.SS to take a major stake, possibly up to 30 percent, in the sport utility vehicle maker, a source with knowledge of the matter said. [ID:nSHA238506]
** The German trade union boss of IG Metall signalled his continued opposition to an Opel (GM.N) takeover by Italian rival carmaker Fiat (FIA.MI), following a meeting with Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne on Tuesday. [ID:nLJ110571]
