ECB's Constancio says no risk of inflation, deflation

LISBON May 27 (Reuters) - European Central Bank Governing Council member Vitor Constancio said on Wednesday that there was no risk at the moment of either inflation or deflation in Europe.

"Inflation is extraordinarily contained," Constancio told a Portuguese parliamentary commission. "Still, this does not point to a risk of a deflationary spiral in Europe."

He added that authorities had to remain ready to avoid the risk of deflation through macro-economic policies.
