LOS ANGELES, May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The award-winning PBS series A Place of
Our Own and its Spanish language companion series, Los Ninos en Su Casa,

Spanish-speaking parents and caregivers of preschool age children with
practical advice on raising children who are socially, emotionally and
physically ready to enter and succeed in school. Highlighted new programs
include:
-- Making Thinking Visible (May 25) features the founders of the popular
Blue Man Group sharing their secrets in bringing out the artistic
talents of young children.
-- The Importance of Dads in Children's Lives (June 1) looks at the
impact fathers have in their children's lives and suggests creative
ideas for strengthening father-child bonds; and Dads and
Breastfeeding,
(July 8) explains the role dads can play in supporting their wives and
contributing to the health of their children.

A Place of Our Own and Los Ninos en Su Casa are produced in a fun, interactive
format and feature discussions with child experts and hands-on skill-building
exercises with young children. A Place of Our Own is hosted by award winning
journalist and mother Elizabeth Sanchez, while actress and mother Alina
Rosario hosts Los Ninos en Su Casa.
Searchable by topic, information is available 24/7 at www.aplaceofourown.org
and www.losninosensucasa.org, including resource links and message boards
fully moderated by experts that enable childcare providers to interact with
one another. Both sites make available over 200 activities previously featured
on the series, providing directions and supply lists for creative projects for
children of all ages. Video is also available online, including segments
featuring nominated care providers who have been recognized for the quality
care, commitment and dedication they offer to the children in their care and
to their communities.
To extend the reach of A Place of Our Own and Los Ninos en Su Casa, the
lessons of the series are delivered directly to local communities through free
educational workshops for parents and child care providers that provide
participants with extensive information on how to use the series to gain a
better understanding of key child care and education concepts. The goal of the
outreach program is to help improve the skills of people caring for young
children, especially those who are not formally trained in early childhood
education; to introduce them to the series, and encourage them to apply its
content.
The series has been honored with numerous awards, including the 2006 Peabody
Award, considered the most selective and prestigious in the electronic media
industry, and a Parents' Choice award for both the series and website.
The series are produced as part of KCEd(TM), the education initiative at KCET.
Since the series' launch, viewing studies indicate that 80 percent of
participants report increased knowledge in tested areas such as managing
aggressive child behavior, sharing, and the importance of learning through
play, as well as changes in their own attitudes and behavior as childcare
providers
