Recent NetApp Industry News

Fibre Channel over Ethernet Plugfests

In May, NetApp participated in two Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)
Plugfestswith the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) and the Ethernet
Alliance. The Plugfests provide a forum for industry leaders to test the
interaction of FCoE end devices.

The Ethernet Alliance "Data Center Bridging" Plugfest, held May 4-8, was the
first Plugfest to target interoperability testing of Ethernet draft standards
being developed by IEEE 802.1. The Ethernet Alliance is a consortium that
includes system and component vendors, industry experts, and university and
government professionals who are committed to the continued success and
expansion of Ethernet technology.

Sponsored by the FCIA, leading Fibre Channel vendors worked together to make
sure of interoperability for the stable FCoE standard. This year`s Plugfest
provided a forum for testing the interaction of FCoE end devices with data
center bridge exchange (DCBx) switches. The FCIA is a nonprofit international
organization whose sole purpose is to act as the independent technology and
marketing voice of the Fibre Channel industry.

SNIA Hypervisor Technical Working Group

For the past four months David Dale, director of Industry Standards at NetApp,
and Alan Yoder, member of the technical staff at NetApp, have been leading the
Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Hypervisor Storage API Taskforce,
which resulted in the SNIA Hypervisor Storage Interface Technical Working Group
(TWG). Yoder is serving as the interim chair of this new TWG. The overall goal
of this TWG is to extend and/or develop standard interfaces for storage
interactions (including, but not limited to provisioning, management, control,
and I/O operations) with and through hypervisors. For more information, visit
www.snia.org/tech_activities/work/twgs.

SNIA Ethernet Storage Forum

Also in May, Jason Blosil, Product Marketing manager at NetApp, was elected
cochair of the iSCSI Special Interest Group in the SNIA Ethernet Storage Forum.
Joshua Konkle, NAS Technical evangelist at NetApp, was elected cochair of the
NFS Special Interest Group in the SNIA Ethernet Storage Forum.

The Ethernet Storage Forum is a marketing organization within the SNIA created
to drive the broad adoption of Ethernet-connected storage networking
technologies and solutions.
