CAMBRIDGE, MA, May 27 (MARKET WIRE) --
Permabit Technology Corporation, the leading innovator of value tiered
storage solutions for the enterprise, today announced that the Permabit
Enterprise Archive product has been certified by BlueArc Corporation, the
leader in scalable, high-performance network storage. The Value Tier
storage solution provided by Permabit is optimized for cost-effective,
long-term data retention, and effortlessly integrates behind the BlueArc
Titan solution. Permabit produces a combined price/performance solution
that provides long-term data protection (250x more reliable than RAID 6)
and massive scalability, at an effective price of less than $1 per/GB.

-- The announcement that BlueArc's Titan 3000 network storage family has
been tested for interoperability with Permabit's massively scalable
enterprise disk-based archive solutions is welcome news for enterprises
looking to manage their archive and compliance data more cost-effectively.
This partnership allows companies to efficiently allocate resources by
allowing BlueArc technology to manage an organization's high utilization
and high performance data on Tier 0/1, while moving static and compliance
data to a much more cost-effective, yet highly reliable value tier storage
    platform managed by Permabit.

-- The benefits to the customer extend beyond the cost/performance arena.
By moving inactive data to the Permabit Enterprise Archive, the Titan
server is able to ensure that the transactional tier performs efficiently
and backup cycles and associated costs are significantly reduced. The
combined BlueArc-Permabit solution drives down the total cost of storage
for the customer and delivers an optimized storage environment that enables
the enterprise to efficiently balance performance and cost according to its
    needs.

-- Too much data in the primary data store costs companies in operational
efficiency and, more importantly, in IT budget impacts. Industry analysts
point to the excessive static (persistent or stale) data that resides in
primary storage. Estimates say that 40% to more than 80% of the data in
primary data stores is static and not used on a daily or consistent basis.
Moving that data to a more cost-effective value tier, such as a Permabit
Enterprise Archive, will save IT critical budget dollars.

-- BlueArc Titan provides industry-leading network storage throughput and
transparency in the enterprise environment by utilizing FPGA (Field
Programmable Gate Array) technology to provide the fastest and most
scalable NAS solutions in the industry. Integrated into Titan is the
capability to transparently migrate data between multiple tiers of storage
while providing a single user view. The BlueArc Data Migrator enables
organizations to automatically balance the tradeoffs between performance
and storage cost-efficiency, while another feature, Dynamic Read Caching,
can be used to substantially reduce data latency.

Permabit Quote:

"In today's economy, the operative word for any enterprise organization is
value. This partnership with BlueArc enables companies to offload upwards
of 75 - 80% of their data to a more value-focused storage tier at a
fraction of the cost they are currently paying for primary storage -- in
most cases less than $1 per GB. BlueArc technology represents the gold
standard for high-end, critical data management and Permabit integrates
seamlessly with their technology to provide the secure and reliable layer
of storage needed to handle the volume of data enterprises are forced to
manage." - Tom Cook, President and CEO, Permabit.

    BlueArc Quote:

"Permabit is well established as the leader in long-term data retention

    Analyst Quote:

"This is another example of companies partnering so they can focus on what
they do best to reduce data center costs and increase IT efficiency. With
this announcement, a customer can leverage BlueArc's high performance
unified storage solution for active data and their data management
capabilities like Data Migrator, along with Permabit's industry leading
value tier for archive and data retention. The combined solutions can
dramatically reduce storage expenditures, while at the same time increase
performance and efficiency." - George Crump, Founder, Storage Switzerland
