A.M. Best Affirms A (Excellent) Rating for Farm Bureau Mutual Group

DES MOINES, Iowa--(Business Wire)-- A.M. Best Company has announced that it has affirmed its A (Excellent) financial strength rating and stable outlook for Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and Western Agricultural Insurance Company. "This is exceptionally good news in view of these very challenging times," said Bruce Trost, Executive Vice President, Farm Bureau Mutual Group. Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company`s A.M. Best Financial Strength rating has been A (Excellent) since 1943. Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and Western Agricultural Insurance Company both continue to deliver excellent results. "In spite of a challenging economy and the worst storm season in our companies` history in 2008, we again outperformed the property-casualty insurance industry," Trost added. In 2008, direct written premium for the property-casualty insurance industry totaled about $489 billion, a decrease from 2007*. For that same period, direct written premium for Farm Bureau Mutual Group totaled more than $1.1 billion**, an 11 percent increase over the companies` 2007 totals.
