Italian Stocks - Factors to watch on May 27

MILAN, May 27 (Reuters) - The following factors could affect
Italian markets on Wednesday.

FIAT (FIA.MI)

Germany pressed suitors of General Motors (GM.N) unit Opel
to improve their offers and a fourth bidder from China emerged
on the eve of a top-level meeting to decide the fate of the

Efforts by General Motors Corp to sharply cut debt and
restructure its business are expected to run until the June 1
government deadline for the automaker to prove viability or face
bankruptcy, the White House said on Tuesday. [ID:nN26488217]

General Motors has failed to persuade enough bondholders to
accept a debt-for-equity swap, setting the stage for the
largest-ever U.S. industrial bankruptcy within days.

The bank said on Tuesday its board has approved the terms of
a series of capital-boosting moves to help lift its Core Tier 1

The company said on Tuesday it has cut its 2009 operating

Italian oil refiner said three workers died on Tuesday in an
accident at its Sarroch refinery on the Italian island of

of Saks Inc (SKS.N) support initiatives pushed by a hedge fund
aimed at making the luxury retailer's board more accountable to
