BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. May 27 (Reuters) - The U.S. economy has "stepped back from the brink" and is much better shape than it was months ago, President Barack Obama said on Wednesday.

"It's safe to say we have stepped back from the brink. There is some calm that didn't exist before," Obama said at a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee.
