SAN JOSE, CA, Jun 01 (MARKET WIRE) --
Quantum Corp. (NYSE: QTM), the leading global specialist in backup,
recovery and archive, today announced two new product releases designed
to help end users solve the challenges of data backup and recovery across
distributed environments by improving local data protection and disaster
recovery (DR) while streamlining management and reducing costs. The
latest addition to Quantum's DXi(TM)-Series of disk backup solutions with
deduplication and replication, the DXi2500-D appliance is optimized for
remote and branch office environments that are part of a distributed
enterprise. The other product release announced today -- version 3.0 of
the Quantum Vision(TM) software -- provides new centralized, multi-tier
management and reporting capabilities for unifying backup resources,
including disk and tape.
DXi2500-D
Designed to be deployed in conjunction with Quantum's DXi7500 system, the
DXi2500-D is a high-performance, cost-effective deduplication solution,
offering remote and branch offices disk backup reliability while reducing
disk capacity requirements by 90 percent or more. For DR protection, the
DXi2500-D can replicate encrypted data to a central DXi7500 utilizing a
global deduplication approach that reduces both disk capacity and network
bandwidth requirements. Replication also enables centralization of all
tape operations in the data center for long-term retention, reduces
removable media management across distributed environments and lowers
overall costs.
The DXi2500-D has 1.8 TB of usable capacity, 300 GB per hour ingest
performance and RAID 6 data protection. It offers a simple-to-use NAS
interface and embedded replication, supports the leading backup software
programs, and is compatible with all products based on Quantum
deduplication technology, enabling easy adoption into existing
environments. Customers can choose to use either simple scheduled
replication or event-based replication, with the latter allowing for the
automated unpacking of replicated files or shares at the core for
immediate production use. The DXi2500-D appliance includes support for
the Symantec OpenStorage (OST) API, enabling Veritas NetBackup customers
to deploy application-aware replication and to streamline the management
of backup across sites. Running DXi(TM) deduplication technology on an
industry-standard Dell PowerEdge server platform, the DXi2500-D is a
simple-to-install, economical and reliable solution.
Quantum Vision 3.0
The new Quantum Vision 3.0 software provides centralized management,
monitoring, and reporting for Quantum storage systems through a single
console. Customers can now begin utilizing Quantum Vision 3.0 to monitor
and report on a single unit and then scale up to unify a multi-tiered
storage environment. Quantum Vision's reporting capabilities encompass
both the Quantum DXi-Series disk portfolio and Scalar(R) tape libraries,
providing detailed analyses which can be used to reduce inefficiencies and
lower an organization's total cost of ownership. Included in Quantum
Vision 3.0 reports are:
-- Information on scheduled replication and file and cartridge-based
replication
-- Detailed performance and throughput history over time
-- Scalar tape library status (with integrated reporting from Quantum
Vision and Quantum's iLayer(TM) tape automation system management software)
-- Capacity planning information that factors in historical disk
utilization and deduplication ratios
-- Proactive email notifications of any change in status of Quantum's
disk and tape systems
"Quantum's new product introductions round out its portfolio -- an
array of products based on a single disk platform that offers tight
integration with tape systems, is supported by a comprehensive suite of
management and reporting tools, and scales from less than a terabyte in
remote offices to over 200 terabytes in the data center," noted Lauren
Whitehouse, analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. "Quantum's storage
systems leveraging deduplication and replication should prove quite
compelling to IT organizations challenged by relentless data growth and
constrained budgets who are looking for multi-site, multi-tier data
protection solutions."
"Improving data protection and disaster recovery for the branch office
continues to be a high priority -- and a major problem -- for many
customers," said Janae Lee, senior vice president of marketing at Quantum.
"This challenge is complicated by the need to manage backups with fewer
resources and tighter budgets. The combination of the cost-effective
DXi2500-D and the management capabilities of Quantum Vision 3.0 eliminates
media handling in remote offices and empowers IT managers to keep a close
watch over distributed disk resources, replicated data and tape creation
from their data center."
Complete descriptions of the DXi2500-D and Quantum Vision 3.0 can be
found at www.quantum.com. The DXi2500-D is available today with an MSRP
of $12,500, including replication and OST licenses. Quantum Vision(TM) is
available today with an MSRP of $3,750 for a single device license.
Quantum also offers a Remote Office Starter Pack including three
DXi2500-D units, Quantum Vision 3.0 and a replication license for the
DXi7500.
